Book Recs from the Underbrush Moms

Yesterday while we were stuck inside twiddling our thumbs, Dom had an amazing idea to ask our moms for book recs! We are always aware that our own personal preferences have some blind spots for some folks, so we decided to call in backup. It's funny to compare our personal reading tastes to those of the women who raised us all to be readers.

Adam's Mom

From Here to the Great Unknown by Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough

“My parents were Elvis Presley fans.  His music & movies were part of my childhood & teen years so I was intrigued by a book written by his daughter and granddaughter.  “From Here to the Great Unknown” did not disappoint. This is an honest and insightful look at the life of Elvis’ only child in her own voice. She holds back nothing, sharing the benefits and pitfalls of being born to one of the most famous people on the planet and how grieving her father with the world shaped how she lived her life. Her daughter honors her mother’s memory by continuing to tell their  broken and blended family’s story - the good & the bad, happiness & tragedy, the normal and the dysfunctional.”

Adam’s mom reads A LOT and when she likes a book enough to recommend it like this, that really says something.

What an Owl Knows by Jennifer Ackerman

“What An Owl Knows confirms these creatures are wise, fascinating, and cryptic. The writing is packed with science yet written in a way that is comfortable and engaging. I found myself making notes about the cool facts because whooo doesn’t love owls? “

Dom’s mom is right – whooooo doesn’t love owls? If you’ve taken a look at our very carefully curated non-fiction section, then you know we love a good nature and animal book.

Courtney's Mom

When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

“When the Moon Hatches, is the most brutal, bloodiest, explicit, and disturbing book I have ever read. The gore level and sexuality far exceeds Game of Thrones–actually, it makes it look like a children’s book in comparison. But the story line is amazing, so it is kind of like a bad car wreck. I just couldn't stop.”

While this might not be a recommendation outside of Courtney’s wheelhouse, it *is* a recommendation that brings a different energy.
